Weekly Planning Meeting, 2/27

- From: Marc Stiegler <marcs>

Highlights 2/27:
The big congratulations this week go to ravi and roland. Roland
installed the crutch, the preprocessor which repairs C++ compilers
so that they handle complex && and || expressions correctly.
Meanwhile Ravi made history with his presentation of the Waldos
layer of software: it was the shortest major discussion in the
history of Xanadu. And everyone seemed to like it, as well! Magnificently
done, ravi.
Congratulations also go to rick, whose presentation on Montage
also survived the brutal inspection of the Xanadu team.
And congratulations to hill and roger, who got some of fm all
the way from smalltalk through the translator through the C++
compiler.
Finally, congratulations go to bobp, whose System Overview is
now ready for shipment (though there are still missing sections,
at least it can give people a good taste of what's coming).
For those who are losing track of the terminology, here's a brief
update:
The Waldos layer is the new layer of the backend between Doc&Links
and Orgls&Berts. Waldos is the deepest layer developers need
ever look at, according to our current best projections.
Montage is the company sensitive project rick is working on:
an authoring system to lie on top of Xanadu, to make it easy
for nonprogrammers to create Xanadu applications.
Tapestry is the new internal name for the frontend we have heretofore
referred to as the Infofactory. The reason Montage and Tapestry
are internal names is that we may have trouble trademarking them.
But at least they roll off the tongue in more liquid tones than
Infofactory and Squat ("Squat" was the previous name for rick's
project :-).
